Born and bred in Denmark, Philip Ancher grew up north of Copenhagen near the ocean. Stemming from an artistic family of painters and music-loving people, Ancher himself quickly found

joy in various creative outlets. But it was music and songwriting and singing that truly grabbed his heart.

 

During his teenage years, Ancher fronted several bands,

primarily rock bands, one of which won a local talent show. However, wanting to delve deeper into the singer-songwriter tradition with simple instrumentation and focus on lyrics,

Ancher supported himself while studying for his master’s degree

in law at Copenhagen University by performing acoustically

at bars and pubs accompanied only by his guitar.

 

Still not willing though to restrict himself in his songwriting

Ancher writes one song at a time not concerning himself with a grand masterplan. Therefore, in his songs, you will find elements

of both blues, rock, pop, country, folk, 50's, classical music, and more which can be heard on his 2021 album Hoist Every Sail!

 

So feel most welcome to join in and listen whether you enjoy the folk and country tradition of banjo, fiddle, and mandolin or the

rock and pop music with its electric guitars and grand pianos, or maybe the quiet vocals and acoustic guitar of the more simplistic singer-songwriter atmosphere. Whatever your preference, the focus of Ancher's songs is always on authenticity and honesty

and spreading the joy of singing and playing to music lovers all over the world.
